As a rule of thumb, volleyball nets cannot be less than 2.15 meters high. The distance between net posts cannot be less than nine meters. The net posts are fixed on specialized bases in official competitions, however ready-made posts can also be used by simply setting them up at the right distance. Above the net, the marking posts should be placed directly on the center line. We’ll go over the detailed volleyball net height standards below. The volleyball net is set up above the center line with a height of 2.43 meters for men and 2.24 meters for women.
Volleyball Net Height Standards
The volleyball net measures 9.50 meters in length, 1 meter in width, and has mesh openings of 10 centimeters square, in black, with a 5-centimeter wide double-layer white canvas on top, which hangs on either side of the center line, perpendicular to the net posts. A five-centimeter wide white marking tape is placed on either side of the net, perpendicular to the sidelines, on each side. The men’s net is 2.43 meters tall, and the women’s net is 2.24 meters high. In addition to the marking tape, there are two 1.80-meter-long red and white striped marking posts. The tops of these posts extend 80 centimeters above the net’s top edge.
Volleyball Net Posts
The net is set up above the center line with a height of 2.43 meters for men and 2.24 meters for women. It should be measured from the center of the court. It should not exceed 2 centimeters in height at either end of the net (above the sidelines). Nets are black, 9.50 meters long, 1 meter wide, and mesh openings are 10 centimeters in diameter. With a 5-centimeter wide double-layer white canvas band around the top edge of the net, a rope is threaded through both ends of the band and tied to the net posts to tighten the edge. The top edge of the net is secure and tightened to the posts with a flexible steel wire threaded through the canvas band. The bottom edge is secured to the posts with a rope threaded through the canvas band.
Marking Tape
Marking tapes are two white tapes, each 5 centimeters wide and 1 meter long, tied perpendicularly to the sidelines at each end of the volleyball net.
Marking Posts
A marking tape is placed outside the net on either side of two flexible rods, each 1.80 meters long and 1 centimeter in diameter, made of fiberglass or a similar material. These rods extend 80 centimeters above the net. The extension of the net should be painted in contrasting colors every 10 centimeters, preferably red and white stripes. The marking posts are considered part of the net and define the boundaries of the area above it.
Volleyball Net Post Height
Posts for the net should be placed 0.5 to 1 meter outside the two sidelines. The net is supported by two posts, ideally adjustable. The posts should not have zippers or any dangerous features.
